The My Personal Data parameters are your personalized values that affect all of the programs on the Optionetics Platinum web site. The parameters can be changed here, and will remain at the values you set them. An example My Personal Data web page is shown by clicking the above link. The options on the My Personal Data web page are discussed below. |
| Email Address |
Automatic email reports at the end of each business day are sent to the email address you provide in this entry. |
| Chart Preference |
Charts can be drawn using Japanese Candlesticks or open / high / low / close (OHLC) bars. Japanese Candlesticks draw a box whose boundaries are the open and the close. Lines are drawn from the box to the high and low. The box is blue if the close is below the open and white otherwise. The OHLC bar is a vertical bar from the high to the low. A left tick is drawn at the open and a right tick is drawn at the close. |
| My Dates access From and To |
These two dates control the date selection boxes that are in quite a few places. If you are going to do an historical analysis of several trades in the past, simply set the start and end date to encompass the date range you want to test over. If on the other hand, you just want to look at current data, then simply make the end date the current date, and the start date 5 days back. The way the program works is that you are really selecting Offset's from the current date. So your selected start and end dates will move forward in time as time passes. This was necessary so that the current date is always displayed, regardless of when the user logs in. |
| Screen Resolution |
The screen resolution parameter is used in the Risk Graph Analyzer stock chart and the trade profit & loss charts. These two graphics can be either too large or too small depending on your window screen width. By playing with this My Personal Data parameter, you can either make the graphic bigger or smaller. This parameter will also affect all future graphic additions to the web site. |

| Risk free rate of return |
All option models need a value for the current T-bill rate. This is the rate money can earn interest at zero risk. What we have found is that the risk free rate of return has very little effect on the model pricing. Because of this, we are not too concerned if this parameter is off by a few percentage points. For the 2 year period that the option data covers, we have found a value of 5.0% to be reasonable for the entire period. It once took us hours and hours to discover that a user was getting bad option IV because they had set this value to 50.0% |
| Rank Engine: Option Preference |
Are you primarily a buyer or a seller of options? If you primarily buy options, then you will always want your rankings to be from cheap to expensive. So pick "cheap" as the value. Likewise, if you are a seller, you want to see the expensive ones at the top. Pick "expensive". Of course, the whole table will be shown in both instances. This parameter simply affects the order shown. You can override this parameter in Create A Rank List. |
| Rank Engine: Ranking From |
This is just a default value. Like all ranker values, it can be overridden in Create A Rank List. This parameter sets the high/low rankers start date. The stock option data runs back into the past 2 years and 1 month from today's date. You can obtain a ranking from ANY interval in that range. |
| Create A Rank List: Option Preference |
This parameter allows you to select the default for the option term length you are interested in trading. For example, a seller of premium may only be interested in options that are close to expiration. He would then select the 3-30 day value. This means that your rankings will only be considering options that have 30 days or less remaining. If you are an option buyer, you will probably be interested in long term options, either 60-90 day or greater than 90 day. There are two other possibilities here: Short-term and Long-term. What we have found, is that the 3-30 day selection, for example, may not have many stock options satisfying the criteria. So what you can do instead is select "short term". This means that if there are no 3-30 day options, then use the 30-60 day number. If there are no 30-60 day options then use the 60-90 day number. Likewise, "Long-term" means to start at "greater than 90 day" and work backwards. "Short-term" and "Long-term" are always guaranteed to have a number for every day. |

The web site uses statistical volatility of the underlying stock to create new and interesting rankings. These rankings will need short, medium, and long term statistical volatility. Here you can change the defaults of these to suit your trading biases. The defaults can be overridden in Create A Rank List. |
